69 plug wires through grommets on shielding

From a judging perspective is there a right and wrong way to route the plug wires through each grommet?

The reason I ask is that I seem to remember something about this so I tried to install them as per the AIM. Well the pass side drawing conflicts with the smaller diagram on the same page and there is no drawing for the drivers side so if the AIM doesn't really spell it out then I'm wondering if it really matters.

If it matters, the wires are shielded.

Greg, on my 68 400hsp, the two top wires in the grommet go to the front two plugs on each side. So the first (drivers side top left) (pass side top right)wire on top goes to the first plug on both sides.

Sometimes mfgr's intend to 'scramble' the order of plug wires through the various looms to thwart 'cross talk'. If so, you should find a note to that effect (spec for order of plug wire placement) in either the AIM or the Chassis Service Manual...

Following up on Jack's post, the only two wires that cross fire was a problem was #5 and #7, since they fired close together and were on the same side of the engine.
