    C3 J hook muffler hanger

I came in from the shop to find the C6 Z06 being assembled on Modern Factories. I was lowering the tank to doing some fuel line repair not that there is a thing in common.

But what was the finish on the J hooks? I blasted them clean and found a nice number 458970 with an L.O. stamped underneath the part number. Don't know when they were introduced but checked it wasn't in the 70-72 tech guide.

The GM #458970 hangers were first used for the 1978 model year and were used through 1982. I don't know what the finish was. However, exhaust hangers and components thereof are very often natural steel. If you want to find out the "true" finish, though, it's easy----the 458970 hangers are still available from GM for about 25 bucks, each, GM list.

I have had a few used J hooks I picked up and I think they were black.
When you buy the new GM part don't bet the farm on the part being the same as the factory installed part. The finish could be different.

Good point. I spotted some finish that gave the appearance of black but concluded it resulted from the area of the J hook that rubbed in the rubber squeak preventer located inside the bracket that secures the J hook to the frame.
