Did the 68 trailing arm brake lines have the armor around them like 67 or not? Thanks

Terry,
I can't find it, but I asked this question in the past & I was told NO armor.
The JG offers no guidance on this.

Re: C3 68 Trailing arm brake lines
Terry-----
I believe that 68's originally had the armored trailing arm brake lines. I think this changed sometime in 1969, but I don't know exactly when. I do know, for sure, that my 1969 built in mid-September, 1969 originally had the lines WITHOUT the armor.
I think that the non-armored lines continued throughout the 1970 model year and into sometime during the 1971 model year. Once again, I don't know just when. By 1972, I think the armored lines were back in use.
It would be very interesting to hear of observations from folks with believed-original 1968-72 Corvettes on this point. Keep in mind that for a long while, "conventional wisdom" and "generally accepted belief" was that all 1968-72 used the armored trailing arm brake lines. So, many cars may have been converted to armored be "correct" or the armored lines may have been used as replacements since these were the only ones available in reproduction based on the mistaken belief that all 68-72 used the armored line. Like I say, I know for absolute certain that my original-owner 1969 did not have the armored lines (it does now, though). In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C3 68 Trailing arm brake lines
I also asked this question a while back and didn't really get a conclusive answer.
It would appear though that at least for 68 and 69 that the small block cars had no armor where as the big block cars did have armor due to the close proximity of the brake line to the rear sway bar linkage.
I can't prove that but that seemed to be the general pattern that formed when I was researching it.- Top

Re: C3 68 Trailing arm brake lines
No armor on the DS trailing arm brake line on my Jan 29 built 1970. I have no reason to think the PS would be different -- I just can't get to that side of the car to check. I am absolutely sure neither of these lines have ever been changed.Terry- Top

My original owner 68 327/350 still has the original naked metal brake lines from the rubber brake line connections to the calipers. Bulit FEB 1968.

Re: C3 68 Trailing arm brake lines
I have 69 small Block. The metal lines on top of the calipers were not shielded and the rubber lines to the frame were not shielded. The E-brake line had a spiral shielding on it. The car seems to be a early 69 build in march. Hope that helps.- Top
