Hiring someone to help buy car

I am new to the board and am not sure if this is an appropriate question for here but hope so. I have always dreamed of owning an old Corvette, but have never been able to afford one - UNTIL NOW! I don't want to make a big mistake buying my first classic Vette so need advice on how to identify and hire someone to help me look at some cars. I am currently looking at a 1965 Coupe, 396/425, original, unrestored. Car is located in Indiana. Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Hi,
I live about 30 miles south of Indianapolis. Where are you located and looking I might be able to help.

There are plenty of us members who would be glad to help look at a car for another member. Some members charge a fee for their services and some just ask to cover their expenses. You can get a general opinion or a complete documented inspection. Chuck Berge is one member who comes to mind. You can find his ad in Driveline.

I live close to Indiana, depending on where it is, I'd be glad to help, if I can. You have come to the right place here. The car you are looking at sounds quite interesting. Keep us posted.

be carful that the person who helps you does not buy the car out from under you.

              I agree!!!!!!
It has never happened to me when I was new, but it only makes good sense to use sombody who you know well, or comes well recommended by a trusted friend.
A 1965 396 car is highly desirable, and if an "expert" sees a real, complete 396 car with its original engine, he will begin salivating immediately.

                  From an ex-Hoosier, Good Luck!

A few decades ago I went with a friend to look at what was described as a 63 Fuel Injected coupe. It certainly was. After driving 300 miles I looked in the old deteriorated garage and saw a beautiful original silver blue/dark blue FI coupe. The only thing missing from this 30,000 mile car were the original seat belts! Looking under the hood I saw the master cylinder---you got it, a Z06! The owner told my long time friend he even had extra brake parts. A box with extra drums, linings, etc!!! Long story short I told my friend if he did not want the car I would take it. He got a good deal---traded a new '85 and got $3,000 and the Z06. I still dream about that one, and the red Z06 big tank for $16,000 I looked at for another friend---
                  When will I ever learn?????

Thanks to all for your replies. I'm certain I can find a trusted and qualified person to inspect for me thanks to your input. I'm excited to finally become part of the Corvette owner ranks and look forward to meeting as many of you as I can. I will keep the Board up to speed on the results of the inspection and whether this car ends up being my first Corvette, or whether my search will continue.

Also, check the driveline info (here) for the contacts in the Indiana Chapters. If you are talking about NW Indiana, contact the Illinois Chapter a well.
