I am looking for a recommendation to rebuild the quadjet carburator on my brother's 1971 270 hp car. The rebuilder must have the ability to repair the fuel inlet threads and test the carb on a running engine. I have tried both Chuck Smith in California and Bob Kunz in St. Louis. Chuck does not do quadjets and Bob is not taking in any additional work until next year. Thank you in advance.

You can try Lars Grimsrud. His email is below:

I have not used him but heard good things. Seems to have a good turnaround time/process too. I know he tests the carb after he is done.- Top

Charles:
I just had my 78 Q Jet done by All American Carb, both replate and rebuilt and cost me $225.00. Talked to them in Orlando at the Regional and where they have their shop. Turn around was ten days...not the months I heard from other rebuilders at the time I was shopping around. Lars does great work but doesn't replate...also has several papers on tuning, troubleshooting, etc.

Re: Quad Jet Carburator Rebuilder Recommendation Please
The best thing you can do is buy the rochester repair manual and learn how to do your own work after paying someone to do it. The book is much cheaper than the $500. I spent getting mine done. I fixed it myself after one and a half years and two experts fixing it twice. It came back two times with parts missing or vacumn tubes drove into screw holes. The other two times my car could have burned up on the test drive with gas all over the intake.Lyle

Re: Quad Jet Carburator Rebuilder Recommendation Please
I have used Lars Grimsrud with excellent results. He uses quality new parts, turn around time is quick, and the price very fair ($200). He also tests the carb on a running engine, adjusting the choke, idle circuit, and WOT operation before returning carb to owner.
The first carb I sent him was warped, although I didn't know it. Since it was useless to rebuild it, he returned it, no charge.- Top

Re: Quad Jet Carburator Rebuilder Recommendation Please
I used Lars, sent him a basket case. Bolted it on and ran perfectly. However, I believe he is no longer rebuilding carbs at this time.
I would still drop him a line. He is very knowledgeable and wants your car to run great and perform as it was intended.- Top

Re: Quad Jet Carburator Rebuilder Recommendation Please
I used Ho;;ey retsoration Services. They replated the body, repaired the threads on the fuel inlet and bench flowed it. All I had to do was bolt it on. This was 5 years ago and cost $225 at that time.- Top
