C2 Frame Shim Tape Orientation

I have purchased the Quanta frame shim tape and I'm a few days away from putting the body back on a '65 convertible. Is there any certain direction that the tape should face as it is place over the shim pack? Front to back side to side etc.

If anyone has some pictures of their restoration showing the shim tape orientation that would be a big help to me.

Front to back.

BtW: what color tape does Quanta sell? Tan or black?

I've seen both and have wondered what color the factory used on midyears.

I used black on my car, based on the logic that: "well if that's NOT what they used, then that's what they SHOULDA used!" With apologies to Dave Burroughs...

Standard beige 1-1/2" masking tape works great.... save your money.

If you have a chance to inspect some original 65-67's, you may find that the shims at location 2 and 3 are double taped. One front to back, the second over the first, side to side.
The rear mount is usually one layer front to back as it would be difficult to cross tape that shim stack due to it's location close to the frame rail.

I have some good factory shots here somewhere and I'll post them IF I can find them.

Thanks for the compliment. Our goal is to have it ready for the Heatland Chapter Meet in 2009 and then the Regional for 2010.

I am planning to be in Creston next Saturday for the meet.

Nice job on your restoration.

A couple of comments...

I believe the fender dust shields were installed AFTER blackout.

The wiper area cavities were NOT totally blacked out, rather a mask was inserted into the hole and then sprayed leaving some color near the top of the cavity.

The inner fender control arm dust shields were stapled to the inner fenders in the Body Shop, in an off-line subassembly, before the inner fenders were loaded into the front clip bonding fixture. You can see them in the photo below that shows the front clip being removed from the bonding fixture.
