    1960 Alum. heads GIF casting

1960 aluminum heads were never installed on a production Corvette. Were they ever sold over the counter? What does GIF stand for? Were these heads cast in Germany?

For heads that never went on production cars, there certainly are a lot of them "out there". So they must have been available at the parts counter if you knew to ask for them.

GIF = "Gray Iron Foundry", as far as I know.

I've heard claims of the heads being cast in Germany. I don't know. Mine has an Alcoa logo.

I'd think if they were cast in Germany, they'd have typical German font styles on the casting date number characters, and they don't.

a lot of that performance stuff gets out early as i had a pair of open chamber BBC heads before they showed up on the ZL-1 cars. mine were sand cast as the outside shape around the exhaust ports was nothing like the ones sold later

Jim, Can you post a photo of the Alcoa logo? When were your heads cast?

The casting date on all of these heads that I've seen, including my own is 6-24-59. I have seen photos of one head without the Alcoa logo, but I don't know the significance of that.
