    1969 jack date question

I recently picked up a '69 roadster, October 69 car. I see that it appears to have an original jack. Has the "A" marking on the raised top pad. Date code looks like " 8 A " which would be 1968, January. Would seem like a 1968 date... but the 1968 Corvette jacks are the smaller base, midyear style. This jack is definitely a '69-'72 jack, and it has been in there awhile. The "patina" matches the rest of the car (read: not much done with it in years).

Jan '68 is obviously before the build of the car, but too far, I would say. NCRS says some of these had no dates at all. Bizzoco says the spread should be about 3 months prior, but we all know how these cars were thrown together.

Anyone make any sense of a Jan '68 build on a '69 style jack??

Couldn't 8A also be January 78? 30 years of patina is hard to differentiate from 39 years of patina. Those jacks were available over the counter from GM for many years, as I recall--but I am no expert on those, by any means!

You might be right. The reference photos I was matching the jack to all referred to "69-72 jacks" so I was assuming those later would not be in play. Ill have to look at that further.

The same jack used for 1969 was used through the 1979 model year.
