    C2 Big Block Oil Pan

I know that there are some "special characteristics" for the subject oil pan (non-replacement) like:
    1) drain plug is off set to the left side......
    2) stamped steel reinforcements are spot welded to the 4 corners......
    3) sump of the pan measures about 11 inches......
    4) 2 vertical ribs are pressed into the sides of the sump.....

    My question is:
    1) Is there a hole present on the front sealing area. I ask this because I know there is a hole on the timing chain cover.......I also believe that there is a hole for the '65 & '66 BB oil pans, but am wondering about the '67? If present, what is the purpose of the hole?

    Thanks for your help......

1965-68 Corvette big blocks all used the same GM part number for the oil pan. The purpose of the hole on the front seal radius was for the through bolt that secured the pan to the weld nut on the timing cover. This arrangement, used for 1965-66, was eliminated for 1967. However, I THINK that the hole in the pan seal radius remained through 1968.

Joe; others -- here's a Chev News (May'67) item that indicates the thru-hole bolt was eliminated in PRODUCTION in Dec of 1966. But, as you say, they continued to specify oil pan 3872429 (with the front hole) for SERVICE (probably for backward compatablility) thru '68.

JMHO, but I can't believe that PRODUCTION didn't switch to the no-hole pan front seal area as soon as inventory (2-3 weeks ?) was absorbed.

Would be interested to hear what (if anything) is mentioned in the '67 and '68 TIM&JG's.
