    Brake shoes

    Can anyone recommend a good brand of Professional grade or High performance replacement brake shoes for a 64 vet. The car is a J65 car.

    Thanks,

    Sam

    Search "J-65" in the archives and you should find many discussions.

    For typical vintage Corvette use, which rarely includes "hard" driving a set of OE replacement shoes from a name brand vendor like Raybestos should be more than adequate.

    If you drive your car "hard" or do some serious track events, there are other alternatives.

      I replaced my J65's with "Matrix Ceramic's" from a company in Texas. I have about 500 miles on them now and they continue to get better. Their characteristics are much like the Sintered Metallic linings with regards to fade when hot. Their cold braking, altough similar, is improved over the Metallics.

      If you are interested in their contact info, I'll dig out my file and pass it on to you.

        Delco #17227R, front, and 17228R, rear. Very likely the same as Raybestos, though.

            I got your PM. However, the system says that I have an "invalid user" when I try to reply. That's ONE of the problem when using the PM system. I recommend just using a posting to the board. The PM's can be frustrating.

            Anyway, I think that any good Delco dealer could order the shoes for you. They might not have them in stock since I suspect that brakes shoes are not exactly a hot item these days. Usually, they can get the parts quite rapidly, though----probably a day in major urban areas.

              Sam;

              I trust you have my E-Mail on the provider. Yes, that is the company; "Praise Dyno Brakes" and you have their E-Mail address correct. I find of late that address is a little hard to navigate. In the past I had gotten the entire information from there and, perhaps with patience, you can do the same now. But my call to the company served me better as they are very easy to talk to, and the owner has a C-2 (67). I'm sure he will send you all the info you need, and it will be current. The web site does not appear to be kept up to date as well.

              They do a lot of manufacturing for other vendors (Private Labeled), mostly of disc brake materials and clutches.
