    68 C3 firewall grommets

Soon, I plan on replacing my engine compartment wiring harnesses as well as all of the vacuum hoses on my 68 427/390hp (L36). I have a manual transmission and no A/C.

It seems like a good time to replace the firewall grommets. I have looked at the AIM but it is not clear to me what goes through the grommets and how many holes each grommet should have.

I figure vacuum hoses, tach and speedo cables, oil pressure gauge line, and back up light switch wire must go through the firewall. My engine compartment harnesses are such a mess, and the firewall grommets are missing.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

One more to add would be the hood release cable grommet.

I see that you own a 72 Coupe. I recently purchased a 72 Convertible LT-1 and was wondering if you can reccomend a good source for parts for the C3s based upon your experience to date.

Nick, Nice car! I've had some local NCRS members show me the ropes. I owe a lot to Tim Raisner, he took me under his wing and without his help I would not be driving the car today. Tim put on a seminar for our chapter, rebuilding trailing arms,(using my T/A's) knowing mine needed to be rebuilt. Just one story! Amazing what he can do with these cars, even over the phone! As far as suppliers, I used Paragon faithfully, with great success and awesome tech. support. Any part that could be rebuilt/refurbished were kept and reused. My intention with 72 was to drive it, and that's exactly what I'm doing, everyday! Good luck, I love pictures hint, hint.

        Regards,
        Kevin

            Michael,

You might want to give www.docrebuild.com a look. Page 20 of their online catalog displays their grommet selection. If you still have questions, you may want to give them a call on their (information only) line.

My 68 390 4 speed w/ PB & PS has a grommet for wiring that I can't see w/out some disassembly, a grommet w/ 3 vacuum hoses passing thru, and a couple of others for misc uses. I can get more specific if I pull some parts and I will if you need that. All of my grommet locations and uses were illustrated in my assy manual. Larry

James, thanks for the suggestion. I did previously look at the docrebuild catalog, but I can give them a call.

                  Michael,

I have a '68 L-36 Automatic that was frame off restored in '06 and Top Flight '07. Here are some pictures of the grommets I believe you are looking for. Let me know if you need more. The mistake I made during the restoration was not taking enough pictures. I took these pictures with everything installed so they may be difficult to see. I hope this helps!

Thanks to all. With the pictures and the explanation, at least now I know what I am going after. I believe I can figure the rest out. Larry, thanks for confirming a 3 hole grommet for the vacuum hoses. Terry, thanks for the pictures.
