    1970 fuel pump size question

I just purchased a spare Delco fuel pump for my 70 300 hp, and was suprised/dismayed to discover that its somewhat shorter than my currently-installed one. When I asked the vendor about this, I was told that the pump I received is the current service replacement, and the correct length pump is no longer available.

Obviously, this pump won't do at all, since installing it would mean modifying my pump-to-carb pipe - something I don't want to do at all, and certainly not something to do on the side of the road in a pinch.

Does anybody still make the correct fuel pump for 70 L48 applications?

    Thanks.

I don't think that anyone does manufacture the pump you seek. That pump, AC type 40769 aka GM #6470308, was discontinued a few years ago and replaced by AC type 41240 aka GM #6471216. The latter pump was used in PRODUCTION for 1977-81 Corvettes.

Most, if not all, of the mechanical fuel pumps are manufactured by 1 or 2 manufacturing sources. When those sources stopped manufacturing the 40769, that was pretty much the end-of-the-line for that pump no matter what brand you try.

One thing I THINK you can do: obtain the 77-81 pump-to-carb line. I THINK this will then fit your application without modification. However, the 77-81 line has spiral armor. You can remove this or leave it, as you wish.

Re: 1970 fuel pump size question

      Hello
At least a few years ago vendors like Zip were offering a rather correct fuel pump with right outlets orientation and the only visual important difference was the absence of AC logo in the pump side.

      Best regards

Thanks for the responses, guys. I'll try Zip first; if that doesn't work out, I guess I'm adding another item to my Carlisle shopping list.

Go by you local NAPA store. Check the M6106 pump. It will not have the AC logo, as none of the new pumps today do. It may fit the bill
