    Restoration Glass

    If you have the correct date and logo on a repo windshield what kind of deduction would you receive? Condition is new, would you only loose originally points. thanks

    Do you mind if I ask what manufacturer's windshield you installed, and how happy you were with the fit and installation?

        Hello;
        It will also depend on if the tint band is correct to OE.
        Much discussion about this at the Novi Regional.
        Trying to find absolutely correct reproduction.
        Maybe someone else will chime in on this.
        Hope this helps.

          They said the tint band should be smaller at the ends. the book said, it should be smaller in the middle. guess what, I don't know.

            Hello;
            Keith Biggers (the '67 Team Leader) was involved in the windshield conversations at Novi.

            Maybe he can clarify.

              Not a 67, but when I was judging Exterior at Seven Springs a few weeks later, I specifically took note of the tint band. On originals, the tint band for 68-72 was even all the way across. The ASI logo on the pass side was 4 inches down from the edge of the stainless trim, and the tint band went down about 3 3/4 inches.

              On repros the tint band for 68-72 was far wider at the ends, and in the middle was about the correct 3 3/4 inches.

                They way it has been explained and demonstrated to me on original windshields is consistent with Patrick's explanation.

                  If I remember, the LOF logo etched to the window is different on the repro's. The lettering is "rough".The line of the top of the LOF "box" and the date code line should line up horizontally where the repro's don't.

                    Sorry, Gary,
                    what year car are talking about?
                    There is either convoluted information between C-2's & C-3's or some mis-information has been presented.

                        Hi Gary
                        I'll yield to Patrick on the Shark specs.
                        But, for an original mid-year the ends are curved downward, the tint color is distinctly green and the vignette from dark to light is long, smooth and uniform.
                        Repops to date have not accurately replicated the depth or shape of the curve (this then, sets the ASI higher), the subtle vignette that should fade to clear, or the color of the tint, (Bluish).
                        As for the logo, early repops showed the top of the LOF box centered between and level at the top with the "Safety - Plate".
                        Current replacemants have resolved this issue.
                        The date positioning has no relevence.

                          Hello Mike;
                          Do you have an idea of the measurements of the tint band and logos?
                          Probably difficult to measure in inches and %.
                          Looking for a guideline, don't have a OE available to compare.
                          Thank you as always for your thoughtful comments.

                            The answer is if everything looks correct and the judge can't find any deviation from the original, then NO deduction would be taken even if the owner says it's a repro!
