Auction of SN #1 cars at Bloomington.

The 3 serial number 1 cars (55,56,57) were bid up to the following amounts individually but did not sell.

    1955 $850,000.00
    1956 $900,000.00
    1957 $950,000.00

They were also offered as the collection of 3 cars but I don't know what they were bid up to as the group. Now everyone will have another chance to buy them..

Does anyone know what the collection bid was?

Bloomington was pretty good as far as the swap meet goes and they also had some great cars as usual.

The L88 Special Collection was fantastic. Another great job by Bill Locke.

What a bummer! If I had known they were going for so cheap, I'd've bought the whole set! - Bob

        "S".....as in "saloon"......"H".... as in "ham"....."I".......as in "idiot"......."L"...
...as in "Larceny"..... and "L"....as in "Leper".

Why do I think that the owner(s?) already have their Monterey spots reserved? Probably about time for the 62 & 63 Delmo Johnson race cars to resurface also....

These prices realy interest me as an appraiser. I don't and can't believe these #1 vin cars are worth that much more than any other.Maybe a 10% premium but not 1000%!
Remember Terry M. had his "Last Big Block". He advertised that car for a year including doing a full color book on it and got $350k for it. The car was owned by a noted NCRS member /vendor for years and didn't sell it. There was also the "First Big Block". There's also a never ending string of first's and lasts. I know a guy that sold the "Last L-88" at auction last month. No big premium there!
I came across the #001, 1966 restored coupe at a local dealer in Dallas and it sold after a year of sitting for $65k.
I think Loren's right , These guys are bidding up there own cars...

I guess these cars now have a perceived value. Now I believe they will sell at firehouse sale price... maybe 2 even.

Pro team had 42 cars there and sold 10 according to the Mecum web site. If you look at the high bids on the unsolds you will get your confirmation of shill bidding. Many of these 'private collection' cars have been in their inventory for way too long. If there was real money for the high bid, he would have said good bye to the car if nothing more than to retrench and turn the cash.... From the HO of an old Chevy sales manager
