    dip stick tube sizes

I recently put a 383 in my '64 and I still have some details to complete before starting the engine. One of the details is finding an appropriate dipstick and tube. I was told that the tube from the old 327 was too large in diameter for the 1999 350 block that is now in the car.

My question is: Was there a change in dipstick tube diameters when GM switched from port to starboard locations for the dipstick??

    tnx, Don

No change that I know of at the time of the change from left to right. However, there may have been a change LATER that I am not unaware of.

In any event, if you confirm that the hole is, indeed, of a different size, the dip stick tube GM #10055724 should work for you.

      Hi Joe-
Thanks for the input. You're coming to my rescue once again. The person who put the engine into the car told me that the old 327 tube would not fit, so I"ve assumed that there must have been a change somewhere and it seemed logical that it would have been when GM went from port to starboard. I've ordered a Locar aftermarket dipstick assembly that is meant for '80 and newer blocks. I hope that does the trick.
