    55 Powerglide

I need a little education on the shifter/transmission/tailhousing of a 55 powerglide for judging.

1, These transmissions did not have coolers? so are the passanger car and corvette the same internally and are the line connectors just plugged?
    2. Can a passanger car tail housing be modified into a corvette housing?
    3. Are the 55-57 shifters the same? I understand the shifter is attached to the floorboard rather than to the transmission?

I currently have a 3 speed in an early car and am trying to get what I need to take it back to a powerglide so any information would be appreciated.

    Thanks

tyler: the c-1 powerglide vettes didn't have a cooler. not sure if the pass car tailhousing will work but would guess it would, provided its off a 55 thru 57 chevy(58 up pass cars used a shorter tailhousing and tail shaft than the shoebox chevys. the 50 thru 54 pass car powerglide tailhousing will not work as those pass car chevys were torque tube critters)). the 53 thru 55 corvette PG shifters are the same( but they differ from the 56 up corvette pg shifters that mount on the tailhousing) and they do mount on the floorpan. good luck, mike

Tyler, my understanding is a Corvette tail piece will fit a passenger car trans. The '53 - '55 shifter is different from a '56-'57 shifter. No cooler lines on a '55, you can plug the connections on the trans with threaded plugs.
