Could someone post a picture of a 1971 A/C decal that has the date on it. I am looking to add the date on my repro, but I can't seem to find a picture that shows it in detail. I think the date is shown as MMDDYS. Thanks! Jim

Re: 1971 A/C Compressor Decal
The repo decals are readily available but are not dated. On my 70 decal the research showed the numbers indented like would come from a line-o-type machine or typewriter without a ribbon. I was unable to come up with anything that was heavy enough to duplicate these numbers. I did locate a set of metal numerals for metal stamping made a setup using a "C" clamp and stamped the numbers from that. It must have passed cause the car Top Flighted twice. These are available at most Home Improvement stores and Hardware chains. Made by the C H Hanson Co of Franklin Pk, Illinois. If you are unable to locate this item, give me the numbers needed and I will send these to you since the 70 is gone along with the label...............Good Luck, Bill #20328

Re: 1971 A/C Compressor Decal
My recollection is fuzzy, but I seem to remember certain metal foil labels being tractor feed from bulk and the variable fields printed via teletypewriter. If so that would explain why the font is hard to reproduce. I don't know of any source for 'TTY' font for various word processing applications.
We had similar metal foil labels at Texas Insturments for the electronic data terminals we built that required a fill-in-the-blank serial number. Back in the early 70's, a group of manufacturing secretary's fed the labels into their IBM selectric typewriters and they had 'special' ink cartridges made for typing on metal foil that gave the ink 'stiction' to fill in the impact formed impressions....- Top
