Congratulations and thanks to the writers and publishers of the August issue of Corvette fever Magazine for some very excellent and pertinent articles that hit a home run with us Corvette restoration hobbyists.
The first, Part 2 in a series, deals with "Reconsidering Your Line In The Sand" (by Jeff Bernhardt) as regards to whether we would ever consider changing our classic Corvettes. I for one have been kicking around the very idea dealt with, and that being pulling the original engine from my 63, setting it aside in storage, and replacing it with a crate engine with as close in appearance as the original as possible.
The second, entitled; "The Perfect Storm" (by John Pfanstiehl) deals with a subject we have kicked around a lot lately on this forum, that of the effects of modern motor oils on our Flat-Tappet camshafts (reduction of additives such as ZDDP). Every classic Vette owner should be made aware of this serious problem. I for one, thanks to the recommendations of our resident experts, only recently changed over to Shell Rotella T and am inspecting closely for any signs of cam/lifter wear. So far I think I'm OK, certainly better than the horror story described in the article by the writer and his experience.
