Does anyone know of an "official" color for the wooden handle on the '67 bolt on screwdriver? The JG states red - but what kinda red? Fire engine, that purply-red that many screwdrivers are colored, orange-red? Anyway, just wondering. Thanks.
Are the flutes just plain wood? Also, what is after the "S" on the first line "IRWIN 200-2 (?). Are the words just painted on in white paint? I guess I'm seeing kind of a dark red almost burgundy. Thanks.
True life color is in-between the two pictured, but, closer to #1.
Just bright red.
That is a 5" not an "S".
The type is white paint, stamped (Debossed).

Could someone who has one of the original screwdrivers take a really clear picture of the lettering for me. Also, if possible, measure letter height and width of each line of "stamping". I have an old screwdriver that is very similar and would like a shot a creating the wording on the screwdriver, but need a clear image and some measurements. This is just for my car and the screwdriver is clearly not a perfect match, so I'm NOT trying to create a "fake" for resale, just one for my car. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a copy of the manufacturer drawings and what is says is " handle red lacquer finish with natural wood flutes seasoned hardwood". Have an original Irwin screw driver that was well used and I restored. I used 67 rally red lacquer and 3/32" block lettering. The drawings do not give lettering size but thats want the was on my my screw driver.

You're one step ahead of Irwin! I worked with them a couple of years ago when I was considering reproducing the screwdriver, and they don't even have the drawing any more, or any record of the part.

I talked to Irwin a few years ago and had no luck. My Father is a master wood worker and he says the wood is maple and he could make the handles. I don't think that it would be to hard to make the blades but its the Furrule that is the hard part to come up with. From what I can find out, its a 2 to 4 step, press and role process, to make the Furrule. I guess I'll just have to keep the one I restored. Bill

Looks terrific! Nobody in the U.S. makes wood-handled screwdrivers any more - I found two outfits in China that said they could duplicate it exactly, but the minimum order would be 5,000; could never peddle that many, don't have room for a cubic yard of screwdrivers, so I passed.
