How Do you Remove Scratches/swirls from Chrome Wheel Trim Rings

I have a 71 and the chrome wheel trim rings look good but when up close have lots of fine scratches,swirls--probably from wiping the brake dust off with a dirty rag. Any suggestions how to remove these? Thanks Paul

Have you tried Semichrome paste polish or even some BRASSO which can be used on chrome and stainless steel?

For minor dust scratches, I would probably first try my Porter Cable polisher with rubbing compound.

If that didn't get them looking nice, the next step would be a try a sewn cloth buffer wheel on my bench grinder using white rouge. This approach can be tricky if you're inexperienced...you can make them worse than they are now.

Try Mequiars Tech wax 2 Advt removes MINOR scratches and swirls. Used it on my 40 4 clip rings with great results. 8.5 out 10 dreiver Quality. See close up on my 67 SS 396 switched rings out for a show.

I have seen a swirl pattern in originals and thought it could have been their when they were new.

I have also observed swirl marks on new rings; if the swirls are uniform and in the same direction/angle all around the entire ring, then I agree those are probably buffing marks from the factory. They probably aren't going to come out with rubbing compound if they are buff marks.
