    Hi Tom:

Thanks for posting that photo (and the related ones). I remembered seeing that photo somewhere on CF and I wanted to show it to Bob, but I was not able to locate it today in a search. I think this is a very clean solution if you don't mind drilling a hole in the manifold.

During my search today I ran across some interesting photos in the following three threads:

The photos in these links show a range of solutions that people have come up with to solve the problem Bob is faced with. Hopefully your photos and the ones in these links will help Bob think through what option looks best to him.

One thing to note is that the direction of flow has to be considered when designing a home-made solution. It's important that the selected PVC valve and its placement match the intended direction of flow from the fresh air intake to the vacuum source.

I don't think anyone's suggesting he should rebuild the engine in it now. Rather, he could obtain a correct block with correct casting number and properly dated and rebuild that.
If it was my car and I wasn't going to have it judged, and I was keeping it forever as a family heirloom (i.e. resale value was not an issue), I would want to rebuild the replacement block my Dad installed in the 70s and drove for many years. At a minimum, if I got a correct block for judging, I would still hold on to the replacement block for sentimental reasons. OP did mention value, but also said it would be a driver. Also, a local rebuild of what he has might be cheaper than a crate engine.
