I am re-assembling my 427 390HP 69 and was checking out the head bolts really close and noticed that some are corroded on the ends and some threads are not up to par for re-use. Does anyone know where to find original style, or what other fasteners are available, recommended? Are there different Big Block sets as far as length, Type, that I should be looking for?

Re: 69 427 Head Bolts
if the threads on the bolts that make contact with the threads in the block are OK they can be reused as the thread that enter the water jacket do no load bearing.- Top

Re: 69 427 Head Bolts
As clem points out, the threads that are exposed to the coolant have no load bearing requirement. So, even if there is damage in this area, it won't have any effect on the functionality of the bolt. The only slight problem is that some bolts protrude into the water jacket more than others. So, unless you get the bolts back into the same holes they came out of, you may have a situation where a particular bolt is missing a thread or two where it shouldn't be. I really don't think this will amount to any significant problem, though.
In any event, if you do want to replace any bolts, the bolts are still available under the original part numbers. The manufacturer's ID is different and the head markings are otherwise slightly different, but they're reasonably close to original. Plus, most of these bolts are not visible, anyway. Use the best of the original bolts in the visible locations and new in the others.

short bolt----GM #3877669
By the way, the above are the 1965-issued part numbers and they're still available today. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
