I Purchased a 64 fuelie, Been sitting for 35 plus years. Any suggestion on cleaning the original Carpet? The car also has its original paint, any tips on how to buff and wax the paint? Plus the under side is dusty and has many cob webs, Any advise on how to clean that area up? I want to keep the car in original condition!
My 67 the same way. For the carpet I chose a mild, mild soap an soft brush. Soak up with towels, then let it air dry. For Laquer paint I went Meguairs route. Look up Google search for the company Their tech guys will direct diff apps. to start the get your final finish. My Lyndale Blue seems a little too shiney for laquer but a testament to Barry's products. Underside I'd rinse with water first the see results climb under wipe down with soft rags.
Yes, Meguairs. I used their Fine Cut Cleaner with a soft rotary buffing wheel pad on our 63 with mostly original laquer.
1st pic, hauling home last Dec. The paint felt like 1500 grit sandpaper when you rubbed your hand across it. After the buffing, smooth as a baby's behind.
Just be very careful buffing at the corners, and do a little at a time. Your results will surprise you.

p.s. congrats on your find! Please post some pictures for us to see.
exactly what are you hoping to do with this car???? is it ALL original and would it be of "historical value" to NCRS as a "BOWTIE" car??????? before I would do anything, if you are unsure, I would get the car judged as is at the local Chapter level and have some experienced judges give you their opinions as to the originality of the car and then go from there
Sam; Congratulations. Rare find these days. I agree with Rick, IF the car runs and drives. This is judging season. Let the NCRS judges look at her first, just the way you found her. They will give you the best advise on how to proceed. The forum can only guess on what you have. Of course bleed out brakes with new fluid (if they hold without leaking, doubtful?), change all fluids and filter. Drain fuel tank and lines etc.. DG
True, Maybe don't wash etc. I do know as a couple yrs ago Bob Weir Guitarist with the "Dead" has an all Org. 64 Vette. Has NEVER even washed it in over close to 40 plus yrs. Lotta dust but its Org. Some might say "Not both oars in the water" But.....
