The Texas Chapter at times has trouble getting Judges to turn out for Chapter meets. Therefore, it's mandantory for car owner's who enter their cars to assist with Judging. Novice Judges are teamed up with an experienced Judge. This also gets more Members involved in the Judging process rather than standing on the sidelines. JMTCW, Gary....

I was a volunteer Observer Judge at the Regional in Kissimmee FL in January. It was a great experience. Basically, I assisted by doing the writing for the judges on the score sheets. Saved them much time. It was a great learning experience too. I highly recommend anyone who goes to these events to volunteer some time to help the judging crews. Everybody wins!

        Gary,
The New England Chapter always had 8 to 10 corvettes to judge at our chapter meets and we struggle to get enough experience judges.
We require that all NCRS members who register for the event work.
We let the owners stay with their cars as we feel its an education for them to see how the process works.
This year we have limited the judged corvettes to 5. This will allow our more experienced judges the time to work with novice judges while they judge the cars.
This change will allow the corvettes to be judged with at least 1 experienced judge on each team. Also it will take pressure off the novice judges who always feel rushed (they certainly don"t need the pressure).
As a chapter we are trying to educate members to the judging process by make the judging job one the they can learn from and enjoy. Best way to learn judging is "on the job training".

          Good point Dick.
By overloading judges, regardless their experience level, the quality of judging can't help but suffer -- and the fun quotient goes down. Judging becomes more like a job than fun. End result is people don't want to judge, and don't come back.
Certainly is something for chapter administrators to think about. A Chapter might be better off having two meets limited to say 5 cars than one meet with a 10-car limit.

            Good thoughts, Terry and Dick.

The Carolinas Chapter always limits the number of cars at chapter meets, (usually three). (We have an event tomorrow, and there are two cars on the wait list.) Chapter events are times to socialize as well as judge the cars, and we try to finish the judging process by 2:00.

As Terry said, the results suffer if we draft people to judge when they don't want to. Nor would I require that car owners help in another class. They really need to be with the cars, especially those new to the process.

A great idea. Previously we limited the judging to 8 Corvettes, but that can be a real burden trying to find enough experienced judges. Using the owners, is helpful, but most of them want to stay with their cars as it is their first time.

We schedule 2 meets per year. One in the spring and one in the fall. Those who don't get a spot in the spring have the option to get an automatic spot in the fall if they so desire. The limit on judged corvettes per event is a plus for all who attend (owners, judges and guests). Making it fun for all makes for a great event.
