Some restoration guides state the two horns should be mounted facing each other with the outlets horizontally opposed i.e the left horn pointing to 3 o'clock and the right horn pointed at 9 o'clock (as seen from the front of the car). At a recent Judging a deduct was assessed on my car as the Judge stated the both horn outlets should be pointed straight down at 6 o'clock. What is the correct mounting position of the horns? Re: 1963 Horn Mounting/Orientation
Bob:
Did you ever get an answer to your question? My 63 was just judged, and the judges had a problem because my horns do not point down. I have the 455 on the right side and 456 on the left side (driver side). Mine point down and to the outside. It sure would be great to see pictures of known original horns to clear up the confusion....and perhaps modify the judging manual if appropriate.
Thanks

Re: 1963 Horn Mounting/Orientation
Kelly: The only thing I am certain of is there is yet to be a reliable guideline, let alone standard, for the mounting orientation of the two horns on a 1963 Sting Ray. There is abundant evidence the newly released Judging Standards are not defensible. Bill Longstreet- Top

Re: 1963 Horn Mounting/Orientation
Hopefully someone with a parts book can jump in.
Are you aure about those numbers and location?
Typically when there are side specific parts in pairs the lower number goes on the drivers side and the larger odd number to the passenger side.

Re: 1963 Horn Mounting/Orientation
The horns on my '63 Cpe. are correct as specified in the new Teh, Manual & Judging Guide - with the excep[tion of in what direction the open end (eg. trumpet) of the horn faces. The two horns face each other angled down toward the centerline of the car - not straight down. The assembly of the horn main body to its mounting bracket and the predetermined positioning on the radiator frame mean this is the ONLY way these horns can be mounted at all.- Top

Re: 1963 Horn Mounting/Orientation
Although the normally-followed convention is to have the odd-numbered part be the left side and the even-numbered part be the right side, the '63 Assembly Manual shows the opposite - it calls for the 456 on the left and the 455 on the right.- Top
