Many thanks to all. ACE sure has them.

Hopefully you caught that my size was incorrect, I believe 1/8 is the correct size, sorry for the inconvenience. I always was looking at them in the tray, not at the number tag.

        I hope 1/8" isn't the correct size. ACE doesn't list a 1/8" size.

The pipe is 3/8" O.D., but it's threaded 1/8" NPT (1/8"-27 pipe threads are a LOT larger than 1/8" diameter).

Bill, Can you help the rest of us out? I can't find them at ACE. What's the SKU?

Re: '62 340 Carter AFB connection

Just got back from my local ACE Hardware.

4126744 is the incorrect 1/4" size.

Then the guy says he does have the 1/8 size in steel or black iron (What's the difference between steel and black iron? All I know is that it's not the usually found brass.) Goes down the cellar for along time, and comes back with a 1/8 x 2 steel or black iron pipe nipple. Looks like it's the right part for this application. There's a sticker on it that reads 4029476. That number is not lsited on the ACE Web site. But it is simliar to SKU numbers for similiar pipe nipples.

              Maybe the mystery is solved.

I'll pay them a visit, but as you found, it doesn't seem to be a recognized part number in their on-line system today. Bet it's old stock that most outlets no longer have. Please save me one if you can.
                I'll report back.
                Thanks,
                Bill

                  OK, here's the deal.
If we assume that the 1/8 inch black pipe nipple (two inches long) is correct for this application, the ACE part number is confirmed as 4029476.
ACE advises that the reason we can't identify that number on their web site is that the web site is actually run by an independent vendor who does not have access to all ACE hardware. Also, the majority of the retail stores will not carry that number because of low demand. Sooooo, you must go to (or phone) ACE and have them order it from their WAREHOUSE, where as of today they have 70 left in inventory. There are one each, not in packets of 5, so order accordingly, And for crying out loud, let me get mine first!

I'm truly grateful for all the assistence on this quest.

                  Bill

Bill, I think my ACE Hardware guy here in Roslindale Massachusetts has some more. If you can't get them locally, email me, and I'll get one for you.
