If the exhaust manifolds on a 56 are painted engine color do the attaching bolts, french locks, and radio shield L brackets get engine paint also? What about the 56 only heat shield that is over the center of the lower section of the manifold? They are all attached to the manifold by the bolts into the heads and I can not see the factory removing the bolts later to attach all of these items.
Don't know about the '56-only heat shield, but the ignition shield L-brackets were installed at St. Louis and shouldn't be painted. The Flint V-8 Plant process for Corvette engines left the frenchlocks un-bent, as St. Louis had to remove the bolts on most engines and it was tedious to open the frenchlocks first; after installing the ignition shield brackets, St. Louis bent over the frenchlock tabs, and bent them on non-radio cars as well.
Thanks for the information. As I read it the bolts and french locks should have some engine paint on them but could be scuffed up due to their removal to add the shield brackets and bending of the tabs.
