but dont have a spare wheel yet. what shall i do ? search for an other knock off or just go for a steel rim

Sander. I have a 64 with knock offs I plan to use CAA . Very nice pic of the frame. Looks great. A knock off takes no more space than a steel rim.
If you can find a reasonable priced knock off that to me would be the way to go. Good luck. Are the tires bias ply or radial. Take one off and try it in the tub.

Remember, since 63s did not come with knockoffs, you'll need one someday if you get the car judged. You might find it easier to just stick one in as the spare now.

Sander -- I can't say for 1963, as KO's were (essentially) not available. As for 1964, Noland's Vol 2 doesn't mention bolts with P48 and I don't have a '64 AIM, but I suspect Wayne P's mention of longer bolts for KOs applies to '64 as well.

But in 1965 (with the new 7.75 tire), and KO's (6" width vs. 5.5"), this required a change in the forward (hinge) bolts [Ref Noland pg. 300 & 301] with blackwall or whitewalls. The retaining bolt (ie. with lock) remained the same.

But for goldline 7.75's, you needed a longer retaining bolt, PLUS even longer hinge bolts (whether KO or not; ie. the T01 tire determines bolts).

All these bolts are available in repro, so at least you can probably accomodate the tire and rim you select.

Sander, can't help with your ?, but that chassis is a thing of beauty. That's good for another 40+ years. Keep on restoring. Bill.

Just to throw another opinion into the tub - since '63's didn't come w/KO's, why not put a '63 steel wheel in the tub, using OEM existing, tub hardware. May be a cheaper route to go and, if you have the car judged, at least you'll get credit for one correct wheel.

                Sander,

brought back memories of a couple of years ago when my 1963 rolling chassis was waiting to be mated with the body - told a friend of mine it was as beautiful as a NAKED WOMAN and too beautiful to be covered!
