from tune-up into a full restoration

a friend of me bought his 1958 last august , and the car arrived mid januari over here in the Netherlands.
the car looked overall verry good, all the chrome was redone.
the previous owner had done a boddy on resto 10+ years ago

at first our idea was to do some mechanical tune up only just to get it road worthy

then the idea was to rebuilt the front end and we pulled the engine
to clean it (engine was already rebuilt) then figured ....mmm..well if..........? we remove these 10 boddy mounts we have the boddy off
    so thats what happened

and here is the result ..........................

Makes me want one of those C1s, Sander. I suppose you painted the car for him?...Does he have any idea how lucky he is to have friend like you?

What is amazing to me is how quickly it all came together. Most of my "while I'm at it . . ." projects end up taking so long I regret not just doing what I originally set out to do.

I believe that is original 1958 Silver Blue with Inca Silver side coves, and Bluegray folding top...I imagine Sander wouldn't paint it any other color but the one it was built in.

Nicely done, Sander...that doesn't look like a 1958 Corvette in 2008; that looks like a 1958 Corvette did in 1958.

you are right Chuck its called Frost blue for 58 but i think its the same
as silverblue called for later years.......

my buddy is going to the dutch Dmv tomorrow morning to get it registered
and they will inspect the car and determine if the Vin is autentic to the car. blablabla....... (ill keep my fingers crossed for the Vin plate attached with the philips screws) its allways a big struggle to convince them
                how something originaly was.........

imagine: i had an issue with them on my 1963 coupe
the Tiltle showed a ''5'' instead of a ''S'' on he vin
in my opinion a reasonable error
Vin tag shows also an S

the inspector also said my car was originaly green from the factory
yep GREEN he was pointing to my ''bird gage'' frame, i said yeah right ??? .

because of the error in the Vin and the green, he was giving me a hard time but after a long discussion he gave met the benefit of the doubt
