C3 68 BB Hood release cable

I'd like to know the correct color and length for a 68 BB Hood release cable for an April 69 built car. I found this in the archives and indicated black but not a length:
Size: 1 kb; Last updated 31 Dec 1969
Terry----- 1968 was a year that Chevrolet had a lot of trouble figuring out which hood release crossover cable would work for a Corvette. The cable first used was GM #3797115, the same as that used for 63-67 Corvettes. This cable has a spiral wound metal sheath. At some point, early on, this cable was replaced with another known as GM #3935500. This cable has a black plastic sheath. Later yet, the 3935500 was replaced by yet another cable, GM #3947959. This cable had a white plastic sheath. It was also used for 1969 models until about October, 1969. The very late 1969 cable, GM #3966626, used

    Terry:

My mid-February built 68 BB had the black plastic sheathed cable.

      Thanks Henry,

Do you know how long your cable is? The sheathing is OK but the stranded cable wire inside is fraying at the ends and I can't thread it into the small holes of the brass barrels at the end. Can I just replace the stranded cable wire or any other ideas? I believe it's the original and I hate to replace it. Thanks

          Terry:

I apologize for the delay in my reponse to your question.

The black plastic sheathing is 31.5 inches long. The stranded cable is 35 inches long. I don`t know whether those are the original dimensions.

I had the same problem that you describe with frayed cable ends. I used brake cable that I salvaged from on old bicycle to increase the available length. A small dab of silver solder kept the ends together sufficiently for me to get the cable through the holes in the brass barrel locks. It worked!
