Hi Guys;
Well, I pulled the carrier out of the rear of my '63 today. Many thanks to the folks on this site who provided removal tips! It actually came out easier than I thought. The whole thing took like two hours!! The car is up on jack stands and I was able to remove the spring, rear struts and half shafts with no problem. I did not take the exhaust off the car. There was a bit of nudging required to get the old carrier down, around the pipes, but it found its way out.
I'm trying to get the new carrier up there, around the exhaust pipes, without screwing up the gasket.. This is not easy! I've given up for today and figured that I would sit, have a brewski, and think about what to do/try next and ask you guys for any pointers you might be able to offer.
My guess is that if I take the exhaust down, life would be easier because it seems that the biggest hassle is getting the yokes past the pipes.
Anybody have a trick to get this done with the pipes still in place... or should I just face facts and haul the pipes down???
Thanks,
Joel
PS. I've taken T10's and Muncies down and put them back up while laying on my back on the floor using good old muscle power.... but I gotta say that rear carrier is HEAVY!!!
