Photos below show an assembled rag joint with the ground strap visible, and the ground strap as a separate part.- Top

Re: Rag joint ground connection?
Hi John:
I have read that the separate ground strap was eventually replaced with some other method that ensured conductivity. If so, do you know what production year this change was introduced? I'm curious whether my 67 should have the ground strap.- Top

Re: Rag joint ground connection?
From late 1968 or 1969 the 7808553 flange and coupling assembly shows the ground strip being used on C3 Corvettes. The strip was replaced by the new design coupling disc with a wire mesh screen molded into the face on the Corvette flange and coupling assembly around late 1971 or 1972.
There was also an actual wire with end terminals that wrapped around the center of the flange and coupling assembly that also provided a ground path. It appears that both the strip and the cable were used on various GM vehicles until both were replaced with the introduction of the screen ground coupling disc. Right now all I can say is that the strip was used on the Corvettes from 1968/69 through 1971/72. The strip or cable was most likely used on Corvette flange and coupling assemblies before 1968 but I just don't have the documentation as yet.
If someone could use a scan of the ground cable installation on the Saginaw flange and coupling assembly (not a Corvette part) I can provide it as well.
