    JL re Horn Relay 329820

    Hey Joe:

I got into the horn wiring on my 78 and found a fried horn relay with GM# 329820...replacing it with a GM 344813 per 78 AIM

But I did not find a 329820 anywhere in my 78 AIM and curious what year it was used...insights appreciated.

The GM #329820 is a part that followed a "strange path". The only PRODUCTION use of this piece that I can find for a Corvette was early 1974. Thereafter, GM #344813 was used in PRODUCTION through 1980.

I can find no information that GM #329820 was ever cataloged as a SERVICE part for a Corvette. However, it was cataloged as a SERVICE part for other GM vehicles. Strangely, it was discontinued and superceded TWICE. Sometime in the late 1970's it was discontinued and replaced by GM #370113. The latter part was discontinued in April, 1982 and replaced by GM #344813. The latter part has been cataloged as the SERVICE part for 1974-78 Corvettes since 1974 until the present time. The 370113 was never cataloged for a Corvette.

The second time the 329820 was discontinued (in July, 1986), it was replaced by the GM #25523703. The latter replaces the GM #25513270 used in PRODUCTION and once available in SERVICE for 1981-82 Corvettes.

So, things regarding the 329820 are highly confusing, to say the least.

How did it get installed on your 1978? I have no idea.
