Hurricane Katrina cancelled the NCRS National Convention in New Orleans. Will that ever be rescheduled there? What city is scheduled to be after the Missouri National event? Any Nationals in Texas within the next five years?
So, like the Bush administration did, New Orleans is off the map for National NCRS conventions?
The local Chapter(s) would have to petition the Board to host the convention. My guess is that they have not done that, likely for a variety of reasons. If local hosts do not ask for a National, they don't receive it.

Each year the BOD sends out a notice to all chapters that might want to host a Regional or the National Convention. It is up to the chapters to submit a request to do so. These requests are reviewed by the National Activities Chairman (Mahk Lincoln). He gives the BOD a list with all the proposals on it and his recommendations. The BOD votes to award the 6 Regionals and the National Convention. There was only one request for the National submitted this year. It was a hard decision deciding whom to award it to, but Michigan won
To add to my prior post, the National does not go out and select a site fro a Regional or National and then ask the chapter to host it. It is entirely up to the chapters to request the activity. The Regionals are totally chapter functions, both financially and activities. The National Convention is supported by the NCRS National, they approve the activities and functions. The chapter(s) provide the leg work and man power to make the meet successful.
A Regional is usually a two year process, from conception to conclusion. The National Convention takes over three years, from conception to conclusion. Either is a whole lot of work for the people that do the work with very "atta boys" when it is all done. What I am trying to say is that it is not a simple, "let's have a "National" here next month and it will happen". Ask anyone that has been a Chairperson of one of these events. The 2010 Convention committee has already had three meetings and will have at least two more this year. And they are still 27 months away from the event.

Right on, Dick.
As many know, our Motor City Regional will be 3 years, 3 months from conception to conclusion (Feb 2005 - May 2008). The committee for the Novi National in 2011 has been discussing options since November, 2007 and gave their proposal 2 weeks ago. They will have the benefit of the work done for our Regional so it will hopefully be less work for them.

The 2000 National Convention was about 80 months from concept to conclusion. We presented it to the BOD in 1994 and got turned down in favor of Lake Placid. We re-presented it and were granted the event. John Pirkle was the Co-Chair of the meet. We planned and planned it to death. You have do many "what if's" and have your contingencies planned. In 20 some years of going to conventions, I have seen about everything happen that was not planned. Like the show field filled with construction materials when we arrived, or the bull dozer demolishing the lobby while we were there, the "mis-appropriated" Vette from a restaurant and the ensuing chase, road construction over the show field, etc. Another large organization that I belong to just had to move one of their future conventions from Indy. The motel will not be ready in time for the event. As the saying goes, "If anything can go wrong, it will and at the worst possible time". You just hope that you have planned for this.
