    "Barn" find 1970 LT-1 coupe

Check out the post on the Corvette Forum.

C3 General - My Barn Find - Well, there wasn't a barn but I got it anyway. Guy had it for 30 years. Inspection sticker expired in 1986. A good friend had told me about his brother in law having this car a couple of times but never thought it would be for sale. He called me a week ago and said it was for sale so we...

Interesting. A couple of months ago I went to look at a 69 convertable 427 (390) car with air and power windows. It actually was in a barn and hasn't been driven in 10-15 years and needed a lot of work but it was complete and was in much better shape than that car. I decided not to go for it because I was in deep in my 69 L-46 that I'm currently restoring, but I would like to call him when I get this one done to see if it is still available. What do you think a car like that would be worth? He did mention to me that the tank was removed for a repair some time ago and no tank sticker was found.

After I posted this I went back and noticed that it was posted on the Corvette Forum March 6 and has since been reviewed by over 1300 people with 35 or so responses. It was listed in the General Discussion section and was surprised no one had seen it and mentioned it here before. Unless I overlooked it.
I would just love to see this car presented at an NCRS event in exactly this condition.

Hi, I was pleased to see my find worthy of mention on this site. As a new member here I hope to learn from others here as I start my restoration.

Re: "Barn" find 1970 LT-1 coupe

First, congratulations on becoming a new NCRS member. You will not find a more knowledgable and yet fun group here. Ask lots of questions and you will get bonafide answers from those who are/were NCRS judges, people the likes of Joe Lucia and Dick Whittington who have so much a wealth of Corvette information, and from people who have a wealth of experience.

I was amazed how old your post was on the Corvette Forum and no one saw it and made any comment about it here. I guess it was because it was in the General section. I visit all of the C-3 sections as well as the C-1/C-2 sections in the Corvette Forum and I even overlooked it.

When I bought my first 1970 I became an NCRS member. It was a no-brainer. I think I already encouraged you to register your 1970 LT-1 with the 1970 Corvette Registry.

If you haven't already, start a new thread to introduce yourself as a new member.

                    Thanks,
                    Scott

Re: "Barn" find 1970 LT-1 coupe

Oh, ARE YOU GONNA HAVE FUN!!!! That is SWEET!! Just a couple pieces of advice...
                      1. DO NOT THROW ANYTHING AWAY!!! Even if the car has friggin' Bosch sparkplugs, hang onto them, and make sure you number which cylinder they came out of....you never know what can be valueable and what isn't. For example, everyone knows GM didn't put those plugs in a '70 LT-1, but the tips can be valueable in telling you what the inside of your motor looks like.
                      2. If you haven't already, go buy the best digital camera you can afford. When you're working on the car, TAKE PICTURES LIKE YOU'RE FILMING A PORNO. It takes a lot of extra time, but it is worth it. There's gonna be (hopefully) grease pencil/paint markings/symbols all over that car...photograph everything! You'll have plenty of reference material and the ability to show US what you're talking about if you have a question.
                      3. Go to Sam's or Costco and get the industrial-size nuclear selection of Ziploc baggies and Sharpies......label everything and bag it!! One word of caution, though.....Safety-Kleen parts washer solvent WILL make Sharpie ink run, so make sure your hands are dry when you handle the baggies full of parts....1971 LT-1 001.jpg

Yup, we're in the same boat!! Mine's a touch newer, though...'71. Good luck and congrats on your car!!!

Scott, I will register the car. I was just waiting to get all the codes and dates from the rear end. I finally had time to put it on the lift and now have the rear codes.

Well Dick, do you think I should haul this old yellow car to Monroe on the 10th and let you guys take a look before I take it apart?
