    Laquer paint

I have a 1967 corvette and its Goodwood Green. I live in upstate New York and was wondering if this paint is still out there and where I can purchase some. Anyone out there know?

    Re: Laquer paint

    Hi Chris,
Acrylic Lacquer is still out there. AND some people are still spraying it on their cars. So much discussion and so many opinions that it'll take hours and hours for you to read the archives.
    Regards,
    Alan

PS: It looks like a Corvette not a Street Rod. Sorry All.

Yes, try www.autocolorlibrary.com. Just purchased and sprayed lacquer a few months ago.

Someone who knows more about this than I do will chime in if I'm incorrect, but I understand that today's lacquer paints do not contain lead as did the original paint on these cars and that the absence of the lead may lead to durability issues.

          Tom,

Check the archives as there is a lot of info on this topic. Bottom line is that lacquer is not as durable as modern urethanes. However, lacquer is a more correct finish and it is much easier to perform spot repairs. It really depends on the objectives one has for the car.

            Donald,

Would you anticipate a meaningfully better judging result with lacquer over urethane?

You can get all the lacquer you want, but getting the right color, shade, and tint is another story. All the mixing colors that were used when the cars were built are gone. Anything you get today is an offset color. Some times close, most time quite a bit off.

                Tom,

The deductions would depend on how well the painter made the paint appear as the original lacquer - dull door jambs, etc.
