1969 shoulder harness/belts

Good day ladies and gentlemen
Were shoulder belts (A85) standard or optional equipment on 1969 coupes? I understand that they were an option on the convertible, but references seem confusing on the coupe

IMSMC - In 1969, sholder belts were initially a required option which later became standard. Hopefully, someone will correct this statement if necessary.

Thanks Kent: Part of my research showed that only 600 of this option were recorded. This leads me to suspect that either:
The 600 number was the number of PURCHASED options and did not include the sets that were installed as standard equipment
or
this was truly the number installed if this was the option, regardless of the model of vehicle.

Shoulder belts were required by Federal MVSS standards on all coupes for 1969; the NCRS spec guide indicates that the 600 units sold with A85 were all convertibles.

Thanks, John. That was one alternative I considered, but it wasn't the one I considered most likely! Mandated for coupes bit optional on convertibles? That seems strange. Thanks again...
