    C1 Frame

    Hi,

My 61 frame is in questionable condition and I am wondering what is available out there. Are new frames available? Are new frame sections available? Is there any chance a 1953 or 54 Chevy passenger car frame is similar in any respects?

    Thanks,

    Ron

Ron, frames are available. I have seen them advertised somewhere. Probably in the Corvette mags. Not much help but a start.

Google Vette Products of Michigan. They make reproduction frames from the original GM tooling.

the front third of a 49 to 54 chevy pass car frame is very similar to the c-1 frames generally speaking. unfortunatly, its the rear half of our c-1 frames that suffer the ravages of Mr Salt. repo rear c-1 crossmembers have been available for years(vette prod of michigan who may also sell pieces of their repos--not sure on that one). if yer handy fabricating and welding, you should be able to repair your original for way less than a repo frame will cost ya---i just did a 275K mile 57 frame that lived its first 15 years running the roads of pennsylvania and i ended up replacing about half the frame with pieces i fab'd.I probably have less than 500 bucks in materials--my time is on the house. good luck, mike

Thanks guys, I was aware of the rear x-members, I was really hoping for the Chevy pass. car possibility, I will most likely repair.

I see more and more original C-1 for sale these days. Most are because owner is building a resto rod with modern suspension etc. Also quite a few are restored and even include motors some times. Prices vary but I 'm sure you can find what you need for a decent price. Start with e bay. Good Luck Rich

David Crane in San Diego has used solid axle frames.
