Joe--
any pics I might have are not digital--is there anything I can answer/explain? Happy to help if I can--I've had several of those (but less than Dennis Clark has)

MIke ..I have seen two C1 NOS big tanks recently and am studying up a bit...on how the filler neck attaches.
It has been a while since I have seen a genuine car set up with the unusual filler neck coming thru a hole in the filler door. Seems like this was printed in the restorer way back when..and probably by you.
Both 57's that were in the Greenbay musclecar collection had these but they were certainly retro fits and probably not real accurate. Although the tanks sure looked real.
PS.. if you want to see something interesting take a look through the new members list and click on any of the guys with member #'s lets say under about 5000. Take a look at the average age and the cars they own.
It amazes me the Corvette love affair that has lasted this long for so many.
Generally speaking, the first "provenance offering" on the bogus ones is something to the effect that you had an "option" to have either the "through the gas cap" setup or "Not". When you hear this about a car that you are even thinking about buying, RUN LIKE THE WIND AND CHECK YOURSELF IN AT THE LOCAL TWELVE STEP ACADEMY FOR CORVETTE BUYERS.
Due to a distinct LACK of gas pumps under "pressure", unless you alter the "fill pipe" location YOU CANNOT GET 24 GALLONS INTO THE 24 GALLON TANK.
(By the way, these are more appropriately labelled as "Medium Tank" cars..............)
