    69 transmission cross memember rivets

Need some instructions on the best way to put in the rivets for the underbody shield brackets that are riveted to the crossmember for the rear of the trany. There are 2 rivets per bracket and 4 brackets. The ones in there now are pop rivits and do not think they were available in 69. Replacement rivits look to be hard alloy. There is no hole above in inner one to use to press.
    Any ideas welcome
    Thanks

They were aluminum pop rivets. Pop rivets were definitely around in 1969 (check your trim tag if you doubt this). As a matter of fact, the rivets involved here, GM #3828470, were originally released in 1963. Never available in SERVICE, though. No matter; you can get them in any good hardware store.

Once-upon-a-time, it made life a lot easier for the folks in St. Louis, too. That was the "genesis" of why it's easier for you today.
