Correct Numbers for '66 Muncie?

Can anyone tell me if my Muncie 4 Spd is correct for my '66? The numbers on the case are 3925660, 29N106327, P9E21A and on the tailshaft 3857584GM. If not, can you tell me what car (year/model) it came out of?

Looks to me like the trans is out of a 1969 Pontiac Firebird. FWIW.

From the numbers provided, it is a 1969 Muncie transmission. It was originally installed in a car built at the Norwood, OH assembly plant (Camaros and, I think, Firebirds) and the transmission was assembled on May 21, 1969 at Muncie, IN. If it still has its original internals, it's a wide ratio M-20.

Although the case casting number is not the same as originally used on your car, the extension housing is the same. Also, if your car originally used an M-20 and if this transmission still has its original internals, then the internals are virtually identical to those that would have been used for your car. So, while it may not be "100% correct" in a "numbers matching" sense, it may be very correct FUNCTIONALLY.

You need a case with the casting number ending in 010, as others have mentioned, the internals will interchange, but unless freshly rebuilt, bearings, brass "blocking" rings and a small parts kit are generally the minimum essentials. The N in the Vin number is indeed a reference to the long gone Norwood assy plant, a city totally encapsulated by Cincinnati.

Thanks to all for the info. I actually just put in a Tremec 5 speed from Keisler last week. Anytime I remove a part from the car, I box and keep it in case I ever want to restore it. I have the original block wrapped in plastic in my garage. Since this Muncie isn't correct for my car, I will probably sell it, since I would have to get another one if I were to restore the car.
