    1957 Primer Color

The early 57's used red oxide primer. Later production cars were sprayed with a dark grey, almost black primer, the same as '58-'62 cars.

I'm currently restoring an early April build car that has the dark grey.

Anyone know when the change-over took place?

    Thanks,
    Ed

Can someone tell me why we care? Are we judging primer now?

Not everthing revolves around judging. I, like many, happen to like the history that surrounds these cars, and to the extent possible, I restore them as they were.

              Re: 1957 Primer Color

From what was reported in this thread, it looks to me like either the final primer color flip-flopped, or the final color determined the primer color. Maybe you should be asking that question as well.
