    Tie rod orientation C1

I have a 61 . I am rebuilding the front suspension. On the tie rod ends which thread orientation goes where. Does the right had thread end go inboard or outboard? Is it the same on both sides? Jerry

either way, it shouldn't matter from a function standpoint. mike.

        Jerry -

Here's a preliminary Graphics sketch I found years ago for assembly of the midyear steering linkage components at Buffalo; it shows the LH threads on the inboard ends and the RH threads on the outboard ends. Don't know if they were done that way consistently or not. Just make sure both sides are done the same way.

It was designed that way on purpose, so the steering wheel could be centered by turning both sleeves the same amount in the same direction without affecting the toe-in setting (shortened one side while lengthening the other side). Of course, on a C1, steering wheel centering is accomplished at the drag link, not at the tie rod sleeves.
