    C1 '58 Heater Controls/Facia

In the TM&JG it indicates that the lettering on the facia is "highlighted in black" and does not distinguish between years so it appears they are indicating all years were the same. On my '58 it appears the lettering may have been white. Anyone else have white lettering on the facia?

Also it indicates that '58s didn't have a white line on the fan control knob for '58 but did for '59-'60. On mine it has the white line which I believe is due to it being a very late '58 (next to the last day of production). Is my assumption valid?

    Here's a pic.

    Thanks, Ted

Ted.....My very late '59 had a heater control plate with white letters when I purchased the car in 1969. The plate looked very much like yours. I don't have any idea why it had this color combination, other that maybe it was a service replacement.....Brad

Interesting, if anything I would have assumed the black to be a service replacement since black was used in the later cars. Also facias with black letters continued to be produced in the 60s to I believe early 80s.

This brings back the wonderbar lettering question. It makes me wonder if the lettering was though out the '58 and early '59s (i.e. when the dash insert had white lettering) was in fact white.

FYI - The clock shown in the facia was dated July 58 which matches well with a mid August '58 car.

                    Ted,

FYI, I have a December 58 built 59 that I have had from November 61. The lettering on the plate, which was with the car when I purchased it, is Black. I believe that I put a new knob on the heater control so I can not state what was originally there. What I have now is a white line on the knob.

                            Ted,

The lettering in the radio is also black. I do not know if you can see it very well but here are some pictures to look at.
