    Re: 57-65 FI question

John, trying sealing with aircraft fuel lube sealer before you toss them. This stuff worked great to seal up my '57 fuel line, brakes and oil lines. Gary....

Re: 57-65 FI question-COLD in the barn

Bill, You said a mouth full. Its only 4 degrees here. bbbrrr. My shop stays nice and cozy till about 15-20 degrees. Below that forget it. Water line frozen line too. bummer. I looked last night for old distr oil lines and found a few junkers. Only one had the copper look. It came from a 63 as it was still on the '022. Magnet held good.
I should be able to dummy up a copper "plated" line for my show car but not for repros I stock. You guys are on you own. Take them or leave them. Can't have everything.
Try some copper sulfate to give the lines a nice copper look.
Tape off the fittings big time and after several attempts the line should take on the copper look.
But it is aint in CC's 5th it doesn't count u no. I can see it all now. Old Jd will put nice new homemade copper created steel line on in time for Seven Springs. Sorta like the blue spring deal you are most familiar with. Ah it makes it fun. All this crap is supposed to mean we are having fun ya no.
You can buy copper sulfate from your local pharmacist. He has to order it of course. Comes in a little can-like talc powder. Add a tad to water and you can have some fun "plating" little parts to give them the copper look.
I have used it to color the 57 FI hi-pressure pumps but it's no cigar.John D.

Dr.Mike., The little white car has Paragons' copper plate steel line that is stiff as can be. But its the real deal. Clear plastic though is much more hip.
Anyhow this kind of stuff is fun. As soon as it gets above zero I will per sue this project further. JD

              Re: 57-65 FI question

Dr. Mike. Well so far we have only been able to find the 57 print for the distr oil line. As far as the material specs: Bundy tubing.(tin coated) Period.
Doesn't say anything about copper plated steel.

Still waiting to hear what happened to the 58 to 65 print. Ken Kayser supposedly has it or is looking for it. I will bug him for it. Now my friend Don Baker said he has never seen a 57 FI with anything but a plain old steel oil line. But Don, JD etal have definitely have seen the copper plated steel ones on some of the late 58 and up '58 is a tough year. for the FI distr.

One distributor oil line is all on its own. That is the late 57 and early 58 '908 FI distributor. The fact that it has a big boss sticking out the back for the 8000 RPM tach means it had to have a special oil line. There was about three versions of this line. Hand formed by bubba on the line, early style and later style bends. All three lines were of a different configuration. Ken Kayser supplied this info. So with the 908 who is to say what this line is supposed to look like. It's whatever gets the job done.

Like I said it would be a piece of cake for a car owner to color his steel line to copper. But as far as getting the car judged it is going to take years to get this thing implemented. But that's what we do. John D.
