I’m replacing the side exhaust on my (427/400 N14) with the correct GM pipes and hardware. It is a triple crown car but like many others, still had some incorrect components. Mine had an after market SS version, incorrect hardware and a heat-riser with the counterweight sheared off.
According to the AIM, the rear mounting should consist of a carriage bolt, a large flat washer with a central tower (3863850), two bushings, and another flat washer (3863851). A nut, small flat washer and lock washer completes the assembly.
I have P/N 3863850, both rubber bushings, and what I thought was the remaining large flat washer P/N 3863861. However, that washer also has a short tower (see picture) which when used in conjunction with the above parts, prevents the entire assembly from closing enough to hold the support bracket on the side pipe. In other words the gap is too large.
My guess is that I have the wrong bottom washer - can someone confirm?
By the way - great improvement to the TDB!
