My Experience With Argent Silver Wheel Paint for a 70

After hours of research, I decided to try two options to repaint my 70 rally wheels. One option was OER Wheel Paint Rally Silver/Green K89325. And the second option was the formula I found on this forum.

I went to my local Tasco Auto Color Store and gave them the formula from this forum and they came up with the following formula for a spray can:

SKU DESCRIPTION INC. (PART) CUM. (PART)
    DMD649 CLEAR 38.2 38.2
    DMD1687 MED. ALUM. 90.1 128.3
    PRL93 GOLD PEARL 13.3 141.6
    DMD641 YELLOW 5.3 146.9
    DMD691 BLACK 3.1 150.0
    DMD646 WEAK WHITE 1.2 151.2
    PRL91 GREEN PEARL 1.2 152.4
    DMD1693 GREEN 1.0 153.4
    DBX1689 CLEAR 104.6 258.0

I have a spare tire which I believe to have original paint. The wheel is dated 12/19/69. The following is a picture of the wheel with a piece of metal in the middle painted with the above paint.

I found this to be a very good match and am painting my wheels this color.

The following is a comparison of this paint to the OER Wheel Paint Rally Silver/Green K89325.

The top sample is the OER K89325 which has very little if any green in it. It just looks silver. The bottom sample is the one shown in the middle of the above wheel.

Needless to say, the OER K89325 is not even close to the original argent silver on 1970 rally wheels.

I hope this helps someone in the future.

Good work Allen, and thanks for sharing what you learned. I wish more folks did this.

What sheen did you specify for the silver green you mixed up at the paint store?

I didn't specify a sheen. I just gave them the formula, and they mixed the paint. The sheen is a medium gloss, similar to what I have seen on peoples original spare tires. The following is a picture of the label they put on one of the cans:

As a further note, the formula in the original post was for 8 ounces that was divided into two spray cans.
