    C1 Spare Tire Width

This is an old problem on C1s, newer 6.70/15 are actually 7.70 and the tire board will not fit down all the way.

Some have suggested that 185/75 or 195/75 radials may fit.

I don't see anything recent in the archives on this subject. Have there been any new developments on this problem? What are C1 owners using these days?

Nothing new that I have heard of. I don't remember now whether my spare is 185 or 195 but it fits nicely in the tub

      Re: C1 Spare Tire Width

I've solved the spare tire problem for my C1s two different ways:

For my '54, which has 205-75/15 tires, I store a deflated 195-75/15 tire in the well. For this deflated tire, I had an innertube installed. If ever I need to use the spare, I'll use a can or two of Fix-a-Flat to inflate the spare. For this arrangement, the spare tire cover fits flat, as it should.

For my '60, which has 215-70/15 tires, I store a fully inflated 205-75/15 tire in the well. I've replaced the regular trunk plywood cover with a circular piece of plywood which just fits within and is supported by the lip of the spare wheel. This gives me a rigid surface on which to place stuff. While the trunk mat isn't completely flat, it doesn't stick up as high as it would if I retained the original trunk plywood.

I'm happy with both of these solutions.
