So looking for the engine block casting # along with engine suffix and assembly date label as shown on page 187. In looking at my C5, I concluded I could not get to it unless I started removing parts like the alternator and bracket.

Am I missing something?

Tom, you will need to remove the left beauty cover to get access to the rear of the head. Use a 1" mirror for best results.

Got it! Thx guys. After following C5 judging and asking questions, decided to pull together my documentation for my C5 and ready it for the Charleston National...a two hour drive! It's been kept original, 45k miles and, in its early years, went on several trips including road tours and represented C5s, displayed from May thru November at the NCM 25th anniversary back in 2003. It's a novel combination...one of 15 and I think the judging teams will enjoy it.

Is it possible after 45k miles, the label is gone? I see a water cap (coolant release?) with a blue T in it and I see a spot that appears to have been a place where a label had rested.

Tom,
Anything is possible but make sure you are looking on the machined flat surface on the rear of the head. 98%+ of the cars have this lable. Additionally it is readable. The manual has good photos with the proximity shown.

I'm in Myrtle beach but no plans to be in Ashville. i've looked a few times and can see the flat spot on the backend of the head. I see an outline and attempted to use a surgical, long tweezers (locking hemostat) with cotton to clean but that did not reveal much.

I don't have an endo scope but see on Amazon where there is one that plugs into a cell phone, using the screen to project the image. Much more reasonable at $25.00 vs. $125.00 for the full scope. Any experience with the "economic" version?

Well I got my endoscope, with some profession guidance and an exerted effort I probably could also use it for...well you know!

Anyway, here is spot I believe to be the location of the engine suffix label. I took several around this spot but I found myself having to use a mirror and flashlight to locate the correct location for the endoscope...a most interesting tool!
