    Mike,
Confusing, the taper bolts you showed earlier are as expected minus the large flat washer.

I really doubt GM engineers would use fine thread in this application, at least for a non AC car. Are the bolt part numbers different for AC in the aim?

I have a set of originals off a one owner 66 I took apart, I am sure they are not fine thread, no pics here.

You do have to pay attention to torque specs, these are not for showing how strong your biceps are...

Re: '67 Battery tray bolts with factory A/C

        Leif, Ron and Gary,

I'll do my best to clarify the C2 AC battery tray screw "isms" that I've found through the years of hunting for various parts while comparing what was installed on cars that I've felt were originals. Like I've said, there's been lots of prior info posted on this subject on different threads. This time I'll show all five years of C2 AIM AC battery tray page info. Sorry for the blurry copy of the '63 AIM. Compare it to the '64 AIM. They're the same.

First off, the thick plain washers #3728666 that accompany these screws are the same for all 5 years.

The AIM listed screw for '63 & '64 is #171114. GM Engineering Standards states that this screw is a Hex Head, Type C, Tapping Screw, 5/16-24 X 3/4" (fine thread), Cadmium or Zinc. Head mark unknown to me.

The AIM listed screw for '65 through '67 is #9422606. GM Engineering Standards states that this screw is a Hex Head, Type C, Tapping Screw, 5/16-18 X 3/4" (coarse thread), Phosphate. The head marks that I've seen on this screw is plain or a centered "E". However, I've mainly spotted this screw on 1967s and either these coarse thread screws or fine thread screws for 1966. For 1965 I usually find a fine thread screw in dark phosphate.

Here's the "ism". I mainly see a fine threaded screw on '65 396 & AC cars and fine threaded screws may show up on '66 AC cars as well. But the ones I spot are Hex Head, Type C, Tapping Screw, 5/16-24 X 3/4" (fine thread), in Dark Phosphate. The head marks are either plain or a centered "D" surrounded by a 3 ring bullseye. These findings are a direct conflict of the the screw part numbers listed in the '65 & '66 AIM. I'll post examples of these next.

Now here's the five year AIM spread. Mike

          Continued from prior post.

Here are four photos of the fine thread screws that I've spotted on '65 396 & AC cars and may also be found on '66 AC cars. The first two photos are file shots of a complete set I grabbed off of the forum. Sorry, I don't remember who posted these but thank you! The last two single screw photos are from my friend's '66 AC L36 VIN #78XX. December 7, '65 build date. All of these examples are of 5/16-24 X 3/4" (fine thread) screws in dark phosphate. Centered "D" surrounded by a 3 ring bullseye head mark.

              Hi Keith,

Is your shown '67 screw 5/16-18 X 3/4" (coarse thread) or is it 5/16-24 X 3/4" (fine thread)?

5/16-18 for the bolt with a 1/2 hex head

                  Keith,

And your car is an original AC car?
